Based on the Jane Austen novel of the same name, this version of Emma is one of my favorite Austen adaptations. Emma is spoiled, rich and beautiful, and she decides to spend her time matching her neighbors and friends. This obviously has heartbreaking and disastrous results for everyone involved. With Gwyneth Paltrow.
North & South is also based on a novel by Elizabeth Gaskell. When Margaret Hale’s father changes careers, her family moves to the dark and dirty town of Milton. When we first saw this, I could barely wait for the day to end, only to get to the point where we could watch another episode at night. (I don’t think any other movie has grabbed my attention like this besides the first Captain America movie! Poor Peggy!) North & South is streaming with Britbox for Amazon Prime. (P.S. My favorite Elizabeth Gaskell novel, Mary Barton, is said to be in development for television. Hopefully it will finally come to fruition.) ” is a period drama based on the modern adaptation of one of Jane Austen’s best-selling novels. It tells the story of Anne Elliot, the daughter of a well-known baronet, and how the snobs around her convinced her to reject Wentworth because she lacks rank or wealth. Even after eight years apart from her, the young woman finds it incredibly difficult to leave her former love.
Although Anne and Wentworth have longed for each other, many factors cause them to constantly reassess the implications of their union. As the story progresses, we see Anne rekindling her love for Frederick Wentworth as she considers a relationship with other suitors.
